Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is a term used to describe medications that prevent HIV infection. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective in preventing HIV from sex or injection drug use. Studies have shown that PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex up to 99%.
